If there is any upcoming artist that has been keeping the G-Funk influence alive while still doing his own thing, it would definitely have to be XL Middleton. Although XL Middleton has been rapping and producing since 2002, it finally seems like he is getting the recognition he deserves. He even speaks to his own fans every now and then on some of the more popular west coast music boards. After releasing a few mixtapes in 2007 which gained a lot of momentum for his upcoming album, he finally released his most recent outing, Barliament Drunkadelic. XL Middleton - Barliament Drunkadelic (2007)
January 8th, 2008Kinfolk - Each & Every Day (1996)
January 5th, 2008If I can ever post one of the most generic G-Funk albums out there, this would definitely be it. Although there is nothing wrong with being generic, this is your typical G-Funk sound here. More onto the group, I really can’t find any info on the two rappers other then that they hail from Long Beach. The album’s production is handled by Charles Atkins, Dave Swang, Del Atkins, Scrap, and Stevo. The most notable producer out of that line up would have to be Dave Swang who produced “Droppin Bombz” off “The Show” Soundtrack and co-produced “Ridin’, Slippin’, & Slidin” off Tha Read the rest of this entry »
Steffon - Trippin’ Wit No Luggage (1994)
January 4th, 2008For my first album article, I would like to discuss one of the most underrated G-Funk albums to come out in the early 90’s, Steffon’s Trippin’ Wit No Luggage which came out in 1994. The album was surprisingly released by the popular Ruthless Records label. Looking back, there really was no album promotion other than a music video for “Frost Bit” and a few magazine advertisements. Every song on the album was produced by Ruthless Record’s former head producer, Rhythm D, and features no guest appearances. The standout song for me would have to be the lead single “Frost Bit” that Read the rest of this entry »
Welcome To The G-Funk Era
January 4th, 2008Welcome to the newest RS Insomniac site project, The G-Funk Era. The site has been finally released for public use after a month of planning content and getting a template ready. The template was done by a good friend of mine, Justin Ruff, who will also be the Editor of this site. Right now, there isn’t much content to be seen, but I will promise this. In time it will grow as well as the community surrounding the G-Funk genre. I will be posting about G-Funk artists, daily news, album downloads and I will even discuss about other rap sub-genres other than G-Funk within the next few weeks.
